My first and long adventure with lice in both of my children, ages 3 and 6 at the time, was seemingly never ending. It began with my daughter scratching her scalp continuously, and ended a few weeks later with her having short hair and my son having essentially no hair. My children were blessed as I was, with an over abundance of hair follicles, and although towards the end of our infestation I was nearly convinced that the lice were demonic in nature, we did eventually win and were left in peace to regrow my children's hair do's. My point: Nobody died and no permanent damage ensued.

Government stay out of our business! What else will you try to restrict. I think smokers should do what the motorcylce owevers did in the 70's when they were protesting the law making them wear helmets. Organize one Saturday where every smoker available will go to parks, beaches and all other public places and smoke up a storm. There is power in numbers. I don't smoke but I will participate just to make the point.

However, take a quick survey and get good information on quitting smoking and not gaining weight! Google; quit smoking and lose weight. Lots of good information on how to avoid the pitfalls after you quit, like bloating, weight gain, constipation, etc

A few comments:

I hate the heart disease statistic. It is actually grossly misleading: heart disease is the number one killer of women because most elderly women die of heart disease. To me that skews the data - they die because they are old and heart disease is attributed as the cause. Our organs weren't made to live as long as we can keep ourselves alive, that's all.

I also disagree with promoting the flu vaccine. It's a marketing ploy. The flu vaccine is based on the best guess of scientists, costs governments (and citizens) tons of money, and generally speaking is not very effective. It makes people feel better and it makes pharmaceutical companies tons of money. It makes governments feel like their being proactive. It's complete bullsh!t and it's actually more harmful that anything else as it's probably just speeding up super bugs. And all for what, potentially avoiding a maximum of 3 days of feeling lousy and staying home from work? Kind of ridiculous. I do always recommend that children under 5, the elderly, and those who are immunocompromised and those that work with patients or any of those groups do get them because in those cases the benefits do outweigh the risks.

Anecdotally: I've never had the vaccine and never had the flu - I know at least 3 people who get the vaccine every year (healthy people in their 20s with no illnesses) and always get the flu.
